Monica Lynn’s music has been performed throughout the United States with additional premieres in China, France, Italy, Serbia and South Korea. Recent honors include recognition as Finalist for the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011 by the National Academy of Music with The Municipal Conservatories of Neapolis and Sykies, Greece and election as Board Member At-Large for the National Association of Composers USA.
In 2010, University of California, Santa Cruz, where Lynn studied with professors Karlton Hester and David Cope, granted her its first doctorate in composition. In addition to her doctoral work, Lynn pursued composition studies at Festival MusicAlp, Courchevel Academie Internationale de Musique, in Courchevel, France as well as the European American Musical Alliance, Ecole Normale de Musique, in Paris, France. In the studio of composer Michel Merlet during both festivals, Lynn explored the compositional techniques of Merlet and his mentor, Olivier Messiaen.
Lynn’s appearances include Featured Guest Composer for The 9th Annual Woman Composers Festival at University of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut and Guest Speaker for the New York Treble Singers in New York City. Positions of leadership include 2008-10 President of NACUSA San Francisco Chapter, Director of Fundraising for Interdisciplinary Artists Aggregation, Inc. and Administrative Associate of the 2009 UCSC/ISIM Festival and Conference at the University of California. Honors include the UMKC Chancellor’s Fellowship Award, UCSC Porter Graduate Arts Research Grant and UCSC Chancellor’s Fellowship Award as well as awards from ASCAP, the Brevard Institute and the European American Musical Alliance.
